Welcome to the world of Idaho Pasture Pigs (IPPs)!
I never would of thought of ourselves as a farm before. Just chickens, nah. Add cows, meh maybe. Now add pigs, definitely!
IPPs are a grass grazing pig that does minimal rooting. So, if shit hits the fan, you know your pigs can survive on the land. Idaho Pasture Pigs first became registered in 2014 and we are proud registered breeders! The breed starting by combining Duroc, KuneKune, and Berkshires who all have their own pros and cons. Idaho pasture pigs get their big bodies from the Duroc, friendliness from the KuneKune, and fast growing meat from the Berkshire. It is the perfect combination, which makes them great Moms and easy to handle.
These are not your traditional factory hogs that live on concrete with no sunshine waiting for grain in their dish. IPPs know how to forage for their food. We do give them grain with double minerals for superior growth. To supplement adequately with fresh graze, we move their pens constantly, allowing them fresh forage.
Idaho Pasture Pigs are ready to butcher at 10 months old. They have a beautiful dark red marbled meat, which looks nothing like you get in the grocery store! We process our own pigs, so they need have a day of stress in their life, which results in stress free meat! We believe every homesteader should know how to process their own meat, so you don’t have to reply on outsourcing. See our From Piglet to Butcher course for more information on that.
You can reserve your piglet with us, by clicking SHOP, then scroll until you see “Barrow/ Gilt Deposit”. We do not vaccinate or alter the piglet in anyway, so you know you are getting high quality. We do casterate the boarlings into barrows, unless you let us know you’d like a registered breeder. Piglets go home between 7-8 weeks old.
If you’d like a registered breeder gilt or boarling, please let us know ASAP by emailing us directly, so we can discuss the details. We take great pride in selecting the best of the best as breeders.
