How To Make Chicken Suet Treats

You know those blocks of chicken suet treats that farm stores sell?

Well, you can make your own at a much cheaper price! Plus, it is a fun project to do with the kids. Really you can swap out any of these ingredients with chicken friendly herbs etc.

Here is how…

You’ll need a muffin tin with liners.

Coconut oil

and lots of fun goodies for the chickens.

In a bowl, I mixed together sunflower seeds, dried chamomile flowers, raisins, wheat berries, oregano, thyme, garlic powder, and sage.

Did I measure how much of each I used…nope

I just eyeballed it and did a little of everything.

Have fun with it 🙂

After I fill the muffin liners with the stirred together seeds and herbs etc. Next,  I top them off with melted coconut oil.

Make sure to let these cool really well or it will be a mussy mess. If you have space in your fridge for them, then they will set nice.

I store these in ziplock bags in the fridge or freezer, wherever I have room. They last for quite a while. Typically, I feed 1 suet a week to our chickens. It is a special treat, so I don’t give to the chickens too often.

Oh, and don’t forget to take the muffin liners off before feeding one to the chickens 😉 I did once…ooops! So, now I take the liners off before storing them haha

Enjoy!
