The anticipation and excitement fill our hearts, as I hear little chirps coming from our brooder. Those fluffy cheeks and dainty wings are the sweetest things. Life is truly amazing and to be apart of each chick’s journey is an honor.
This year we have French Black Copper Marans, Self Blue (Lavender) Ameracaunas, Olive Eggers, Easter Eggers, and some good hearty barnyard mixes.
We are proud members of the American Poultry Association, Marans club, and Ameracauna club. This helps us stay on top of SOP (Standard of Perfection) when we pick our breeders.
Temperament, egg color, and body type are our top 3 priorities with breeding. Our chickens are hand raised by us, including our children, so temperament is very important. Egg color is something we are always working on by only hatching the most beautiful eggs. We also keep hens and roosters if their body type meets the standard for their breed. No chicken is perfect, but we look at the overall qualities. Genetics are fascinating and show my inner nerd a bit-ha!
